Vintage Makenge basket 5

These beautiful hand-woven baskets from Zambia are beautiful as a styling object and give an ethnic touch to your interior. It is very nice to hang a number of them together on the wall, but they are also real eye-catchers as a single basket. The baskets are made from the tough roots of the makenge shrub and colored with natural pigments. They are used by the population to store grain. They often pass from generation to generation and can therefore be over 50 years old. Each basket is unique in its pattern and detail and the signs of age and imperfection are what make the baskets so special.
